Does it take more than just being a Christian to see those promises in effect for you? Perhaps we need to look more closely at the dynamics of our relationship with God. Can we be just too “chummy” with God? And what are the effects of our instant, rapid response, fast-food, get it now society on our ability to wait on God and exercise spiritual patience? All these questions.... and more, addressed in today’s message, as we continue in the book of Zechariah.
Your humble webmaster was traveling through several states to attend the wedding of my niece.

Commitment. It is becoming too much a rare commodity in today’s society... and unfortunately, in the church as well. The most basic component of a covenant relationship- be it a marriage, a ministry, or a friendship, is commitment. Of all people who inhabit this planet, those who are representatives of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ should have the utmost integrity to fulfill promises, positions, and vows they have made. As we heard Haggai chastise, we now hear Zechariah encourage, and the message today, in this world where people change their mind as much as they change lanes driving on an expressway is clear: honor your word... do what you say you will do.... and finish what you begin.
Has the Church today become too cavalier in its approach to God? Are bodies of believers all over this country, taking their responsibilities and commitments way too lightly, being driven more by feelings than Spirit? More by schedules than integrity? Perhaps it’s time, in these days, to examine and compare our lives with Ecclesiastes, chapter 5.
In His wisdom, God sent Haggai to not just light a fire, but a firecracker under the people to get them up and moving about the busy to which they’d been called. That wisdom also then called Zechariah to come in behind Haggai, the encourage and maintain the work that had been started. Though their management styles differed radically, both styles were required and both played an important role in accomplishing the work God had called the people to.

In your personal life, and in this church, the time is NOW for Spiritual, Physical, and Financial growth, in order to make sure that for generations to come, people who are desperately seeking to fill a void... and don’t know how to fill it, will come to know who God is, and find that He fills that void perfectly.
